This is an incredible piece of fiction. It's very difficult to write a review on it, as there's just so much to say! When you first start reading "The Enemy of the Good", it's difficult to know what to make of it. I wasn't sure whether I was enjoying it, but all I knew was that I had to keep reading. I just wanted to immerse myself in the world full of conflict and excitement that Arditti has created. "The Enemy of the Good" delves deep into the characters, showing Arditti's great talent for creating characters that keep you captivated. Clement struggles with his sexuality and faith, Susannah comes into her own through a religion that seems both unjust and repressive. Edwin suffers desperately, and his wife suffers with him. The Granville family captures your attention, and it is extremely difficult to out this book down! This novel is one that makes you question things you hadn't even thought of before. It forces you to take sides, and makes you think. It asks you questions about yourself, about humanity, about love and forgiveness and faith. It is a novel that divides, it is a novel that unites, and it is a novel that forces you to decide where your loyalties lie.
