Dueling book covers…may the best design win!
"Any one who has common sense will remember that the bewilderments of the eyes are of two kinds, and arise from two causes, either from coming out of the light or from going into the light, which is true of the mind's eye, quite as much as of the bodily eye; and he who remembers this when he sees any one whose vision is perplexed and weak, will not be too ready to laugh; he will first ask whether that soul of man has come out of the brighter light, and is unable to see because unaccustomed to the dark, or having turned from darkness to the day is dazzled by excess of light."

This is written by a ghostwriter
L.J. Smith will not be allowed to write anymore Vampire Diaries. It was taken from her and given to a ghostwriter(an unknown author). She has fought long and hard to prevent/reverse this decision, but Alloy (the book packaging company) will not budge. This was allowed to happen because of a “work for hire” clause in the original contract she signed in the ‘90s when she really didn’t understand what it meant. Phantom was written by L.J. Smith, but the publishers told the ghostwriter to rewrite it. However, it will still say “Created by” L.J. Smith. I won’t be buying it because a) I don’t think it will be any good and b) I think it was very underhanded move by Alloy to do what they did. I’ve also emailed Alloy and plan to send a snail mail letter. Of course, everyone is free to decide for themselves what they will read. I just wanted to make sure everyone knew the facts.
